Jonathan Durand and Amanda Chalupa previewed and discussed scenes from Memory Is Our Homeland, an upcoming documentary film focusing on this largely forgotten history.
The conversation reflected on how the experience of researching their family story brought them around the world, and the consequences of this search on their professional and personal lives. They also discussed the stories of individuals and communities that they have met along the way, drawing links to the realities of past and present refugees.
Jonathan Durand is a Montreal-based photographer and filmmaker. He is the director of Memory Is Our Homeland, which was the recipient of Telefilm Canada funding in 2015.
Amanda Chalupa is a PhD student in Social & Transcultural Psychiatry at McGill. Her research focuses on how child migrants rebuild their lives on individual and community levels.SEE MORE
